Mini intervista a Leia Stone

Leia Stone is the USA Today bestselling author of multiple bestselling series including Matefinder, Wolf Girl, Fallen Academy and Kings of Avalier. She's sold over three million books and her Fallen Academy series has been optioned for film. Her novels have been translated into five languages and she even dabbles in script writing. Leia writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance with sassy kick-butt heroines and irresistible love interests. She lives in Spokane, WA with her husband and two children.

Let's start with the origins? How did your writing career start and what

inspired you to write fantasy and paranormal romance?

I always was an artist type of soul even as a kid. I wrote my first ‘book’ of poetry at age 12, it might even still be in my mom’s garage. I was always painting or sculpting but really leaned into writing in my early 20’s. I was initially drawn to fantasy because of Harry Potter.

scrivere fantasy e paranormal romance?

Sono sempre stata un'anima artistica, fin da bambina. Ho scritto il mio primo “libro” di poesie a 12 anni, forse è ancora nel garage di mia madre. Ho sempre dipinto o scolpito, ma mi sono avvicinata alla scrittura verso i 20 anni. Inizialmente sono stata attratta dal fantasy grazie a Harry Potter.

What are the main challenges you face when creating such complex new worlds and engaging narrative plots as in Matefinder and Wolf Girl, just to take two examples!

My main challenges are 1. Remembering everything I have written by book four so I can close every open thread and leave the reader happy. 2. Focusing on the book at hand and not letting my muse try to lure me elsewhere.

Quali sono le principali sfide che affronta quando crea nuovi mondi così complessi e trame narrative così coinvolgenti

come in Matefinder e Wolf Girl, solo per fare due esempi!

Le mie sfide principali sono 1. Ricordare tutto ciò che ho scritto entro il quarto libro, in modo da poter chiudere ogni filo aperto e lasciare il lettore soddisfatto. 2. Concentrarmi sul libro in questione e non lasciare che la mia musa cerchi di attirarmi altrove.

A new paperback edition of Fallen Academy came out on 18/03, what differences are there with the previous ones, will there perhaps be unpublished

scenes or a new introduction?

The cover is new and never before printed!!! I love this cover SO much. If you are a book collector then you have to have this set, the entire series is so pretty. I’m so lucky to work with such talented artists.

Fallen Academy is a series more than loved by readers, for you as a writer, what does it mean to see the release of a new edition?

Pinch me am I dreaming? Having my books in stores and getting a publishing contract with an amazing and successful publisher like Bloom is seriously my life’s dream.

Mi stai dando un pizzicotto, sto sognando? Avere i miei libri nei negozi e ottenere un contratto di pubblicazione con un editore straordinario e di successo come Bloom è davvero il sogno della mia vita.

Staying on Fallen Academy, I know it has been optioned for a film adaptation, how do you feel about that and how involved are you in the process?

I want it to happen so bad that I have to stop thinking about it or I will torture myself. Last I heard we had attached an amazing writer and were pitching it to studios. Netflix are you reading this? Call me.

At Casa Sterne we recently read the first two volumes of Gilded Academy, the third is coming to Italy in May, what do you anticipate for us Italian readers?

Ohh the third is full of so many twists and turns but will leave you with the best happily ever after! I’m so excited for you to read it. Ariyon and Fallon have a permanent place in my heart. Yanric too of course.

Your works have been translated into several languages and have reached readers all over the world. How do you perceive the international reception of your books?

I love to travel and my husband is from India and speaks several languages so it’s incredible to have my books accessible to the world. Again, pinch me. I’m dreaming. I’m living my dream!

However, we in Sterne House love to get to know women writers, who is Leia outside of writing? Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a mom to 12 year old twins, a Christian, and a wife to a charming bearded man who does the dishes. I have five chickens and two dogs and like to think of myself as a deep thinker. While I’m making dinner sometimes my mind will drift to random places and think… what if we really just live in a simulation and none of this is real. =) Which then will give me a book idea and then off I go!

Tuttavia, noi di Sterne House amiamo conoscere le scrittrici, chi è Leia al di fuori della scrittura? Puoi raccontarci qualcosa di te?

Sono una mamma di due gemelli di 12 anni, una cristiana e una moglie di un affascinante uomo barbuto che lava i piatti. Ho cinque galline e due cani e mi piace pensare di essere una profonda pensatrice. Mentre preparo la cena, a volte la mia mente va alla deriva in luoghi casuali e penso... e se vivessimo davvero in una simulazione e niente di tutto questo fosse reale?) E così mi viene un'idea per un libro e poi parto!

The last question in our interviews has been repeating on a loop since the inception of the column: what is your favorite book?

A book that was really thought provoking and I was never able to get out of my head was Beach Music by Pat Conroy. I haven’t read it in over 20 years and it stuck with me.
